5 Screen Free Activities for Kids

It is well known that screen time is an exciting activity for almost every child. It is enticing and is one that they’ll never say no to. On top, it’s one that parents are guaranteed that their child will sit in one place for a long period of time without disturbing others. Sounds great right? In some aspects yes, but it is also very important to engage your child in activities that are going to stimulate their minds. Here are tips from a sixth form in Taunton on 5 screen free activities for kids.

  1. Reading books. Reading is proven to improve vocabulary and exercises the brain. It is a low-maintenance activity that your child can do independently yet gain the best gains from. Figure out what your child has interests in and allow them to read books on them. This is particularly handy for children who think reading is boring and don’t enjoy books. You’ll notice they’ll reach for books more often when they understand the variety that they come in.
  2. Take walks. To your local shops or even daily walks to your local nature reserve. Children just want activities to do and screens tend to be the easiest and most interesting at home which is why they turn towards them more. A long walk with fresh air not only encourages exercise but helps with stress levels. It’s a lot more calming than thought.

  1. Include them when you cook. The easiest thing would be to get them to help with the preparation and stirring occasionally. Alternatively, allow them to choose a child-friendly recipe and aid them in completing all the steps in the recipe. This will not only teach them the efforts of housework but you’ll find another pair of hands to help with dinner time!
  2. Bring out the board games. They are not only fun, but can be educational and will encourage teamwork. The entire family can get involved and this can be a great bonding session for children of all ages.
  3. Take it outside. Invest in some outdoor equipment, you’ll be shocked at how much time your child can actually spend outside. A trampoline or a little tree house and you’ll find they’ll keep themselves occupied for hours. The best part is they’ll grow to love the world that nature brings.
