There are many outdoor learning activities that can enhance your child’s skills and personal development. They’re both fun and insightful, which will give your child plenty of experience for the future. In this guide from a private nursery in Cobham, we look at 5 outdoor activities you can explore with your child today.
1. Orienteering
Something a lot of schools and clubs pick up is orienteering. It involves a group picking up coordinates and following them to their end goal – sort of like a treasure hunt in a way. It’s fun, exploratory and tests your child’s understanding of teamwork.
2. Gardening
While on the surface you may not think gardening is a learning activity, it actually shows your child how to look after plants and watch them grow. Gardening is a good way of testing a child’s fine motor skills, as well as teaching your child about the world of biodiversity and how plants have a huge level of science to them.
3. Heading to the beach
The beach is a great learning experience for children. It can give your child the chance to understand the textures of sand and its various consistencies. It also shows your child what they can learn about the sea, including rock pools, seeing crabs and other little fish, as well as collecting shells and fossils if you’re lucky.
4. Canoeing
A more physical activity, canoeing or kayaking both have great benefits to a child’s learning experience. For one, it relies on working together in order to get right, and it also focuses on a child’s gross motor skills to give your child the understanding to work the oars and row safely.
5. Rounders
A family-friendly activity, and popular in schools, is Rounders. It has a similar set of rules to baseball and it relies on quick thinking, strength, teamwork and delegating skills. While fun and exciting, everyone within the team has to work together to attack or defend depending on their role.
