Get Out of Debt While Enjoying Life

Whilst none of us plan to get in debt, it can happen so easily. Many will tell you that it is down to poor money management skills but the truth is that if you don’t have enough money coming in then often you have no choice. However, it is possible to get out of debt and enjoy life at the same time, here are some tips to help.

Track Your Spending

One of the best things you can do is start to track your spending – we’re all guilty of spending sometimes without really considering what we need & how much it is going to cost. Tracking your spending allows you to see what you are spending, where your money is going and where your money might be better spent. This allows you to see where you might be able to make changes and cut back, without needing to stop doing everything that you enjoy doing. By looking at your outgoings each month you can work out what could be spent on debt if you rejigged things a little while still allowing funds for the things you enjoy.

Take Ownership

If you are serious about getting out of debt then you need to take ownership and take this seriously to make it happen. It probably won’t make much of a difference if you half-heartedly pay off a little here and there without making a serious effort to get things cleared up. Instead, it is worth making sure you know exactly what debts you have, what needs to be paid and when  – so you avoid missing payments and having fees added on.

Consolidate Your Debts

For people with more than one debt outstanding, it can be worth looking at options surrounding debt consolidation – you can read more about that here. This allows you to move all of your debts to one place and have just one monthly payment to worry about rather than needing to pay numerous debtors at the same time. Often when you consolidate debts and bring them to one place your monthly repayment is less than having to pay lots of little payments to different people; which means that your debts become much easier to manage.

Pay off What You Can

Whether you consolidate your debts into one place or you choose to keep them where they are, the trick to getting out of debt is to pay off what you can. When you have financial worries it can be tempting to just pay off the minimum amount but this often means that you end up paying just interest rather than making a real dent on any outstanding amount. It can be worth making a plan to throw everything you have at debt for a year or two to bring it down so that you can be debt-free and have a fun life much more quickly.
