How to Motivate Your Child to Learn

Parents, we’ve all been there. Having a child that’s insistent that they don’t want to go to school or won’t do their homework regardless of nagging. We have teamed up with an independent school in the West Midlands to let you in on some of our top tips for how to motivate your child to learn.

Learn About Their Interests

Knowing what your child is passionate about can help you make their studies more interesting and engaging. To get them to read more, you can look for books that feature their favourite fictional characters. That way you’ll get them to do their work without even realising!

Reward System

A reward system can incentivise studying and motivate children to do their work. Points act as a form of currency that they can earn once homework is complete and add up to a treat of their choice. Reward systems like these can teach them about good work ethic and the importance of hard work.

Show Your Interest

Showing your child that you’re invested in their education can motivate them to learn and help them to see the value that education holds. Praise is an important part of this as well as your time and attention.

Identify Any Struggles

If your child isn’t enjoying school or seems a little withdrawn from their work, it may be a sign that there’s something wrong. That might be something that they’re not quite getting at school or issues within their friendship group. Whatever it is, you can solve it and help them to get their mojo back by working with them.

Surround Them with Positive Role Models

In the music industry and pop culture there are a lot of poor role models for children to look up to. Sharing stories of positive role models can help your child towards the right path and motivate them to do something as equally inspiring with their life.
